Stages of Ibogaine Treatment

Ibogaine is an indole alkaloid derived from the Tabernanthe Iboga and Vocanga Africana shrubs native to the Gabon region of Central West Africa. It has been used for centuries by Bwiti religious tribes for spiritual right of passage and initiation ceremonies believed to induce spiritual healing and growth and to connect community and promote a healthy mental state.

Ibogaine’s anti-addictive properties were inadvertently discovered in 1962 by Howard Lostsof, who struggled with heroin addiction. Howard ingested ibogaine with a number of his heroin addicted friends who all noted that following an 18 hour psychedelic trip they experienced dramatic reductions in their heroin craving and withdrawal symptoms.

Lotsof dedicated the next 45 years of his life and career pursuing research and development of ibogaine and establishing standards of practice for treating substance addictions with ibogaine hydrochloride. He contracted with a Belgian company to produce ibogaine in tablet form for clinical trials in the Netherlands and was awarded a United States patent for the product in 1985. Due to extensive pushback and roadblocking by the U.S. pharmaceutical industry, Howard never saw his vision to save millions of lives from addiction and alcoholism come to fruition. Howard Lotsof died in New York City on January 31, 2010.

Ibogaine Treatment procedure consists of three stages

First Phase of Ibogaine Addiction Treatment (Lasting 4-8 hours)

Acute Phase

The acute phase begins 1 to 3 hours after administration and will typically last 4 to 8 hours.

Many patients report a variety of panoramic visual experiences of past memories. It’s often described as a “waking dream state” with varying experiences that may include contact with transcendent beings, passage along a lengthy path, or floating through one’s life.

Acute Phase

Patients often report being placed in or entering visual landscapes rather than experiencing intrusive visual or auditory hallucinations. Not all patients experience these visual phenomena, which may be related to bioavailability and interindividual variation. The neuroreset, neuro-rebalancing, and detoxification of the addiction receptors begin immediately.

Second Phase of Ibogaine Addiction Treatment (Lasting 8-18 hours)

Evaluative Phase

The evaluative phase of ibogaine therapy begins approximately 4 to 8 hours after administration and may last between 8 to 18 hours.

Many report a more neutral and reflective emotional tone. Attention is directed at evaluating the experiences of the acute phase. It is preferred to remove as much external stimuli as possible during this phase and the acute phase as the patient will become sensitive to sound, light and smell.

Evaluative Phase of Ibogaine Treatment

Following the initial ten (10) hours of therapy, the intensity of the experience lessens, but the patient will continue processing on a cognitive level while in a highly relaxed state.

Third Phase of Ibogaine Addiction Treatment (Lasting 24-48 hours)

Residual Stimulation Phase

Between 12 and 18 hours after administration, the residual stimulation phase begins and can last between 24 and 48 hours.

to be The patient’s attention shifts back to the external environment, normal physical movement returns, and most report heightened arousal and vigilance during this period. At 24 hours, patients are considered to be in the “recovery phase.” This is the time to rest and be peaceful within oneself while reflecting upon the complete ibogaine therapy experience.

Nico

After struggling with drug and alcohol abuse for over 20 years while intermittently attending hundreds of AA/NA meetings and over a dozen residential treatment and intensive outpatient programs, Nico V. Avante found his way to ibogaine through a knowledgeable friend. “After my single ibogaine treatment in 2008 the 20-year battle was over, ” recalls Nico. I woke the following morning completely engulfed in surrender and acceptance. The war that had continually reeled in my head and heart for decades over the immense shame and guilt that I had felt was just gone and replaced with a deep desire of love and appreciation for everyone and everything meaningful in my life that deserved my awareness and reciprocation. Ibogaine was the single most transformative experience of my life. I don’t know how to say it any clearer; Ibogaine saved my life
